This award has been instituted to recognize outstanding and conspicuously important contribution in promoting remote sensing science, technology and applications in the country. The contributions should have made major impact on the use of this technology for national development. The scientific contributions can be from the following areas:
- Development of innovative and critical technology
- New design and concepts for standardization
- Development of information systems and applications
- Education, Training, policy development and related aspects
The award shall consist of Rs. 50,000/- in cash, a medal and citation.
Eligibility
Any citizen of India, engaged in activities related to remote sensing technology and its applications is eligible for this award. The prize is awarded on the basis of work primarily done in India.
Evaluation
A duly constituted Award Committee will evaluate all nominations received. The committee shall consists of
- President, ISRS
- Nominee Chairman, ISRO
- An Eminent expert in the field of geo-spatial science and technology, to be identified by the Executive Council, ISRS.
The Committee may consider any person or persons, who in their opinion have made outstanding contributions to development of geo-spatial science and applications, apart from those persons, who nominations have been received. The award can be withheld in any year, if, in the opinion of the committee, no sufficient meritorious candidate is found suitable in that particular year. The decision of the Award Committee shall be final.
Presentation of the Award
The award shall be presented during the Annual Convention of ISRS. Air fare (low cost ticket) may be reimbursed if awardee requests for it.
How to make Nomination
The nominations can be proposed by Head of a major research institute/ centre; Vice-Chancellor of a university; Secretary of Government Scientific Departments; a former Bhaskara awardee, President of a National Academy, President, Indian Society of Remote Sensing / Indian Society of Geomatics / Indian National Cartographic Association, Honorary fellow or two life members of the society with more than 20 year old membership. A candidate once nominated would be considered for a total period of three years.
